I made it across to California!!!
Man, I’m so excited today - this felt like a huge milestone. There are still many, many miles ahead as California is massive, but I feel like I’m one step closer to home.
Here are a few pics from today’s ride.
Ashes Falling From The Sky
I stopped in a little town called Brookings to grab some breakfast along the way. As I got into town, there was quite a bit of haze in the sky, and the sun had a reddish glow to it. As I peddled further in, it started to get smokey, and ash began to fall from the sky from a nearby wild fire.
I grabbed my other t-shirt from my pack and fashioned a mask from it, so I wasn’t inhaling the smoke and ash. I felt like I was in Mad Max - minus the sand, minus the weapons, minus the crazy vehicles… Okay, nevermind, it wasn’t like Mad Max at all. But, it did work pretty well.
As I was coasting down a hill today listening to Junior Senior, I realized that the music that I’m listening to doesn’t match the visual scenery I’m looking at in the least. To give you an idea of what I mean here’s exactly how this part of the ride looked and sounded from this morning.
Out in the Middle of Nowhere
Tomorrow I’ll be cycling through some of the Redwood National Parks and staying in a tiny little town (about 300 people). So, I’m not sure if I will even have cell reception, let alone Intenet access, but we’ll see what happens.
