I hit the 500-mile mark today! (Well, 543.8 miles to be exact) I took a bit of a departure from the coast and went inland a bit, and then up into some hills.
The mornings seem like they’ve been getting colder. I’ve started the day with extra layers (sweat pants, full finger gloves, thermal, etc…) and then removed layers as the sun starts to come out.
Here’s a shot a little later in the morning when the sun started to come out.
I ended up diverging from the 101 for a while today and instead took a smaller highway and some back roads.
The back roads had some pretty massive climb into some hills for several miles.
I then coasted back down until I got into Bandon, my final destination for the day.
I was happy to get into Bandon today after another 55-mile ride. The coast here is spectacular!
The only downside is the wind. Coming into Bandon, I had to angle my bike into the wind, so I didn’t get blown over coming down the coastal roads.
When I got into town, I grabbed water out of a vending machine to cool off.
So when you’re out on the road cycling for such an extended amount of time, you end up thinking about a lot of stuff. That stuff that goes through your head isn’t always all that important, and sometimes it’s just weird. So, I thought I’d share a little internal conversation with you from today. It went something like this:
Huh, I wonder when the last time I used a yo-yo was? Man, it has to be over 5 years, maybe 10? I should try and yo-yo again. Hmm, I wonder if I could yo-yo and ride my bike at the same time? I bet I could do it. But would it still be fun or too difficult? I should see if there’s a Walmart along the way somewhere, where I can pick one up and give it a shot.
I’m heading out to my last Oregon stop tomorrow in Gold Beach!
